Love it to death

This week over at the Haunted Design House the challenge is Music Mayhem and over at Smudgy Antics the challenge is Creatures Of The Night.
This was an easy choice of subject for me, I have been wanting to do something Alice Cooper inspired for a little while now.I have done a double page in my little fat book (not sure if I'm using the term right but the pages are nice thick card), and I wanted to make it a little more understated so decided to try a project just using browns to give a vintage feel.
My fave album Is Love It To Death and one of my fave songs is Ballad Of Dwight Fry follow the link if you want to see what the straight jackets are about.
The back ground was done with some of the Tim papers and a little bit of vintage text tissue paper.I aged them up more by dabbing the distress ink pads onto my craft mat, adding water and then laying the paper face down to absorb the colour and then ironing dry and flat.I then went in with some distress stain in picket fence to lighten areas up (on the left page)  the edges were done with vintage photo and walnut stain.
I found a couple of images on the net of people in straight jackets and the album cover from Love it to Death, again aged with worn paper and stuck down. the words are song lyrics randomly chosen and stuck down, I also made a noose out of a brown suede thong, If you know Alice Cooper you know why I've done this ;)I think this also fits the Smudgy Antics challenge as I think Alice Cooper is the ultimate Creature of the night?????  ;)

Thank you for stopping by and all the comments that are left, they are all read and mean a lot.
happy crafting.  mark

  1. Been having fun I see! Like the colours and the page even though I'm not into AC! Hope you are having a good week so far. Thanks for helping on Sunday; it really is appreciated. Been planting it up so it all looks a million times better though still a long way to go.

  3. Excuse me a little "SQUEEEEEE". You KNOW I was click, clicking on your link as soon as it popped up on my sidebar :D

Love that song, I've clicked the link to listen while I read your post. Love your pages, especially the little noose.

I've been working on your (very late) ATC this week and have been worrying if you would like it because it's more drawn than crafty... but after this post I think you might like it ;)

Do you, like me, do the " I gotta, I gotta, I gotta get outta here" really over dramatically whenever you are in a situation you don't like? Followed by lots of blank looks from the people you might happen to be with? My sister is the only one who gets it - and joins in!

p.s my nephew is doing something with Alice this year - I'm not sure if he's a roadie or fronting with them or what. My other sister was pretty loose on the details but said he will be rubbing shoulders with all the guitarists. Have told her if he doesn't steal me something I will never, ever speak to either of them again!

  5. I think you are in good company with your browns, Tim Holtz started his distress ink collection ages ago, with only browns and it was a long while before he went for colour. Your pages really suit the AC type theme and that little noose is a perfect touch. I did like AC way back when, but a bit more sedate now - like he is! Anne

  7. Just when I thought you couldn't endear yourself to me anymore, you go and do this. I am a huge Alice fan! Really huge. I have all of the original pressings of his first 15 albums. I used his albums to get me through rough patches and trying times in my life. "Pretties for You" is still my all time favorite album of any artist. "DaDa" got me through a real low point and showed me what insanity really is. I have a deep and unwavering devotion to Mister Cooper and his music. Up until "Constrictor" came out. He sorta lost me then, but I appreciated all his cameos and other work in films and socially aware projects he worked on. Oh, did you make something? Why, yes you did! Fabulously wicked piece of fat book art! Wonderfully creepy and icky asylum photos too. Really lends a miserable and hopelessness to the piece. The overall color reminds me of the color of mercurochrome. Perfect!!! And you can never have too many nooses. Thanks for playing along with the Minions this week at HDH!

  14. Wow Mark, this has some serious time put into it (as do all your masterpieces) - I feel like you put more of yourself into this one as well. Isn't that what a fat book is suppose to be about? I have to admit I have never been an Alice Cooper song fan, but I always celebrated the fact that he had the guts to be different when different wasn't always accepted or cool. I love people who are willing to step out there and be different because normal is sooo boring. I love shocking people - one of my very favorite past times!!! I could go on and on about this subject but we need to get back to your creation. Brilliant work as usual - you set the bar in this challenge so high that I seem to be always stretching and I totally love that!!!!! Hugz!!!

  15. Love the music notation background - pleasurably disturbing against the nooses and straitjackets! Brilliant work - even without knowing more than the bare bones about Alice Cooper!

  16. Fab pages Mark! First time I saw AC was in a high school gymnasium. (Gives away what a geezer I am, LOL) The sepia tones are perfect and of course I'm loving the noose and creepy asylum images. Does it work? If not, I can give you a few pointers. it's a good knot to know. LOL Always happy to have you join the Minions at HDH. xxD
