Mothers Day Tags

With mothers day in the UK arriving this Sunday I needed to get my craft on and create something for my mum, I am also on double duty as my Sister had a little sprog just over a year ago and till said sprog is able to head to the shops and select a card i have decided to cover all the important occasions for her.

I used an MDF tag from That Craft Place and picked out a design paper for my back ground.

The Tim Holtz stamp platform really comes into its own for me with this technique, and is the reason I picked one up. I was initially skeptical on how the platform would work with a thick substrate, (the mdf is 4mm thick) and i was worried about how accurate the over stamping would be, I needn't have worried, By placing the tag towards the outside edge of the platform I had no trouble getting my image to stamp and it lined up perfectly when I cam back to over stamp.

The Image was stamped using black archival ink and the image was painted using Decoart Media Fluids, you can be quite bold with the paint and it doesn't matter if you paint up to or onto the black ink lines. Once all the painting is done, carefully place the tag back on the stamp platform using the magnets as position guides, re ink the stamp and stamp over the top of the painted image, as the platform is so accurate the lines match up and there is no double image, it really tidies up the painted image and makes using acrylic paints much easier to work with stamped images.

My second tag has been turned into a tag card and I have gone for a more clean and simple look using a faux chalk board finish and this time the Gypsy Rose image has been stamped using a versamark ink pad, some Stamp n Bond from Stampendous (basically a glue that works like an embossing powder) this stuff is great, no more mess with wet glues like the flitter/flutter stuff that is just to sticky and messy. once the stamp n bond has been heated up and turned clear the silver leaf flakes were added for a little bling ;)

Hopefully my Mum ad Sister will like them.

Craft Stamper. Chunky Layered ATC's September edition

With the new issue of Craft Stamper hitting the shelves tomorrow I can now share a little make from Septembers edition where I have a little article showing what I did to create these Chunky Layered ATC's

I have used Decoart Media fluids to paint the Acrylic.

These stamps are from Carabelle Studio, You can get them from Wendy at Dasiy Jewels and Crafts and if they don't carry the design you want I am sure she will order it in for you with their next order xx.

I have combined the clown from Carabelle with the circus tent stamp from one of the Oxford Impressions vintage circus sets.

I thought these fish were Ideal for the stacked ATC, layering the images really helps crate some depth. The stamp is again from Carabelle Studio and actually comes as 3 fish swimming, I just cut the fish out to make the separate and make the stamping of each fish easier.

Time Waits For No Man - De Stempelwinkel 6x6 Canvas

When 3 Become 1 an Experiment With Multi Layering An Atc

 

Morning all, I'm over on the De Stempelwinkel blog today and it's day 9 of the 31 Days Of Halloween Blog hop.

I am playing around with ideas at the moment for a new class I am putting together based around Mixed Media Atc's.

This is my first play with multi layering some acrylic Atc's.

Decoart Media DT Halloween Challenge Sacred Heart Shrine

 

 

Morning all. Something a little different today. Over on the Decoart Media DT we are planning something a little special for the month of October. Starting today we are running a Halloween themed mixed media challenge.With some great prizes up for grabs at the end of the month.

All the paint and mediums are from the Decoart Media Line. I have used the Art Room Blank from Tando-Creative for my Sacred Heart Shrine. The Mystical Eye is from Spellbinders.

I have also used a couple of Skeletons from the Games Workshop, a wooden heart, Tim Holtz rub On's and some fuse wire.

The Box was given a coat of Decoarts Gesso and then a fairly thick but slightly unevenly applied coat of Crackle Paste was applied with a pallet knife and left over night to do it's thing.

Once dry it was painted with Carbon Black and dry brushed with Medium Grey Value 6 to bring out the details. The whole piece was then coated with Black Antiquing and wiped back when dry. This really brings out the cracks and added a nice dark shading.

The Spellbinders charm was first given a coat of Gesso and a rust treatment using Decoart Media Fluids. The inside of the charm and the Shrine were painted with Titanium Buff and then washes of Prussian Blue Hue were added to give a swirly look. Finished with a Rub on and a coat of Satin Varnish.

I have used modelling paste to develop texture on my wooden heart and then painted with Decoart Media Fluids.

Ill be sharing a more detailed step by step for the Heart later in the month.

The skeletons are from the Games workshop and after a thin base coat of gesso they were painted with a base of Titanium Buff and then given washes of Quinacridone Gold and Carbon Black, the details on the spear and shield were painted with Raw Umber and Silver.

I used some Tim Holtz Rub on's to add some extra detail, rub on's are great for working on a texured surface where stamping can be problematic.

A little stenciling was added with some Titanium Buff to add to the ancient ruins look.

The Barb wire was made using fuse wire and bent to shape.

De Stempelwinkel Silhouette Card

 

Morning all. I am not sure what has come over me but I have made another card for the De Stempelwinkel Blog, Now I am not a huge fan of cards normally but the last few have been somewhat fun to make, just changing up the traditional folded card makes quite a difference.

I decided to go for a more modern look and feel for this card and have used Decoart Media Fluids  along with Stencils from That's Crafty and Stamps from De Stempelwinkel

 

 



De Stempelwinkel - 1 Hour Craft Challenge

De Stempelwinkel - Imagine Wooden Canvas

 

 

 

 

Morning, With the weather starting to warm up and some sunny days I was feeling the summer colours a little and came up with this Hippy canvas using the Decoart Fluid Acrylics, Andy Skinner stencils and stamps from De Stempelwinkel.

This started out as a wooden box frame, 6"x6".

I started by painting the base white with a couple of coats of the Tinting base.

when dry I added a couple of drops of colour to the back of my pallet knife and swiped randomly across the base. when working like this I tend to start with my lighter colours first and then build up.

I used Hansa Yellow, Quinacridone Magenta, Pthalo Turquoise and Green Gold.I let each colour dry fully between coats.

Using Andy Skinners Hippy girl stencil I first stencilled in black Gesso, then moving the stencil over slightly I re stencilled with white Gesso. The decoart Gesso is brilliant for stencilling and can be tinted with the fluid acrylics if you wanted to stencil with colour.

I used the Designs By Ryn Hibiscus stamps, available from De Stempelwinkel for my stamping as they fit with the Hippy theme and the 'Imagine' sentiment was added gain using an Andy Skinner stencil. It just threw up images of John Lennon for me.

Industrial Grunge Step By Step.

Morning all, I am sharing an older post here that was shared when I was asked to be a guest designer that was a bit of a step by step.

The whole piece was not shared here before so I thought I would dust it of and put it up.

All the products used are from the Decoart Media Line.

 

My wall hanging is an assemblage of smaller pieces gathered together.

I started with a small pre Gessoed Canvas and after a base coat of white I built up and blended my colours using Decoarts Media Fluids, Translucent yellow oxide, Quinacridone burnt orange and Quinacridone gold before edging the canvas with black archival ink.

The middle and bottom sections have both been cut from foam board. The middle section has been made from two layered sections of board. The base was painted With Raw Umber and then a coat of Decoarts Crackle paint (this comes white but is easily coloured with the fluid acrylics)

once dry I added some washes of black and quinacridone gold to give an aged and tarnished look.

The top board was given a base coat of white and then a coat of Green Gold this is a really bright almost citrus green/yellow colour, it was looking a little to bright so some more washes of black and quin gold were added to grub it up.

If you are not sure what I mean by a wash, its when you really water down the paint. The fluid acrylics are pretty much pure pigment so the colour stays true even when thinned down. I add a small amount of paint to my craft mat and then start adding water with my brush till I get the results I am after. If you apply the wash and its to strong in colour, just spritz the piece with water to dilute and get the finish you are happy with. The chipped edges have just been painted on by hand using Raw Umber.

The decals are from 7 Gypsies and are rub ons.

The main focal piece comes from a kids Airfix model and has been given a tarnished brass finish that I 

picked up on Andy Skinners Timeworn Techniques online class.

The Bottom section was coated with Decoarts Modelling paste and was applied patchy and randomly, I wanted the surface to have some texture.Once dry the edges were coated with their texture paste.

Again a base of white was added and then a slightly watered down coat of colbalt blue. A few colour washes were added to pick out the low spots. Finally the edeges and rust runs were added by painting Quin gold and just scrubbing it into the textured sections

The red box was also from the model kit and painted to look like an old metal unit.

The top section has been made from a mixed media board from Tando-creative these are laser cut boards made from grey board.

I used a diamond plate embossing folder, coated the board with texture paste once dry a coat of white paint and then a coat of Panes Grey media fluid acrylic.

paint over with some quin gold and let dry, this starts to bring out a really nice rusty look, If you want to go a little further you can add a wash of Red Iron Oxide and just let it dry naturally.

The finishing touches were added, Tim's tap head has been painted with the Patina antiquing cream, left to dry and then just rubbed back to reveal the metal.

Some rust wire was added from the industrial box to the machine.

A few other embellishments were added, a couple more Tim pieces and a light bulb from one of my dads old cars (don't worry, he had accumulated lots of car bits while he was still around)
