Morning all, Thank you so much for stopping by.
Today I have my first DT piece for Anything But A Card I have been a big fan of this blog since it started a few months back, An awesome DT and was honoured to be asked to be a part of it.
We are having a By the Sea challenge, you can either use this picture
Or create a sea side inspired project.
I decided to use the sea side as my inspiration. As a child we would have our family holliday in the New Forest camping, many of the days would be spent on Bournemouth beach or at Pool Harbour, Dad and myself would go on one of the fishing day trips whilst my Mum and Sister would decorate plates in Pool Potery.
For the frame I used one of Andy Skinners Time Worn techniques for peeled paint, I wanted the washed out shabby beach hut look. The Stamped image is from Paper Artsy, they have so many fantastic images to choose from, this trawler reminded me of the days out fishing with my Dad. I painted it with Distress inks and then matt glue n sealed over the top so I could ink the back ground with out the colours being affected. The back ground has been done with distress inks in Old paper, linnen and pumice stone, the edges have been done with vintage photo and then walnut stain to give a shabby feel. I finally used the water drop technique to give it an even more aged look.
The seven seas stamp is from the same set as the boat, I also used a Tim Holtz stamp to add some texture, behind the boat, I quickly cut out a mask for the boat and stamped over the top.I adde an old shell and A crab the was stamped onto shrink plastic, Again he is from the same Paper Artsy set.
For even more inspiration head over to Anything But A Card to see what the other DT members have been up too. There is still one week left to get your projects in, I look forward to seeing as many of you joining in as possible.
As always a big thank you for stopping by and leaving comments.
I would like to enter this into a couple of challenges.
Challenges 4 everybody are having an Anything Goes challenge.
Crafty-Emblies are having a Vintage Shabby Chic challenge. They also sell some amazing chip board products.
What a lovely image and frame. My hubby would love that, as he's afisherman amongst other things. Love Francesca
ReplyDeleteI loved this when I saw it over at ABAC Mark, that timeworn technique on the frame has worked so beautifully, it really does look old and aged - and gorgeous. That image of the boat is beautiful and I love the shrink crab too. A truly lovely piece. Anne x
ReplyDeleteGreat piece Mark! I love the peeled paint frame - delicious! The boat image is gorgeous too. So glad that you're on board with us! Great class with Andy today - we all missed you.

Your piece certainly looks old and worn and so full of memories for you.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant stamped image - and your colouring and distressing is just gorgeous. As for that shabby peeled frame - right back at you with the 'shop-bought' - these would sell like hot cakes!! And the piece as a whole really has that sun-drenched nostalgia of childhood holidays (though I'm a bit surprised that you weren't decorating pottery rather than out on a fishing boat... crafting came later, I guess!). Fabulous first DT spot - they're lucky to have you!

You are a personal gain .... for every DT. All your projects are very unique. It's not only how they look like, it's also the story behind every piece of art. I love to read it all (:o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous project- full of memories! Love the colors and the frame is gorgeous! Glad you are on board with us!
ReplyDeleteThat frame is excellent. You have really rocked the Timeworn technique. Looks superb when painted in cool blue colours. The trawler image & it's background are wonderfully pieced together, especially with the water drops. It has a wonderfully subtle shabby look to it. Px
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your first DT piece. The frame is super and I love the trawler image. A fabulous project and looking forward to seeing your future projects.
ReplyDeleteThis is a superb first DT piece Mark...I love the image & background, & the texture on the frame looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteWe did miss you yesterday, not as much as Andy did though, he was thoroughly outnumbered! ;o)

Cool piece! The glue n seal doesn't make the d.i. Run or bleed? There's so many of these little tricks to learn. Thanks
ReplyDeleteLook at you go this would make an insane Christmas present for someone and they would appreciate it knowing you had spent time making it but to be honest it looks so professional they will think you just bought it haha. Brilliant work as always x
ReplyDeleteStunning design with pleasing shades...your approach inspires me a lot...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture frame, love the colors.. Thanks for joining us at Challenges 4 Everybody.. Good luck! Sandy :)
ReplyDeleteLove the distressed look of the frame. It does look like a piece of weathered wood, reminiscent of very old timber shacks at old beach communities. The boat looks like it's popping out of the frame. A lovely memory piece. Have a great weekend. Cheers, Di
ReplyDeleteThis is fabby, love how you have aged the image.
