Hi, Thank you to everyone who has posted comments and joined my blog, it totally blows me away. thanks.
Right on with the show, this week over at the Haunted Design House their challenge is 'Vintage Vile' so I thought I would try out a technique I saw demo'd this weekend at The Craft Barn's annual Extravaganza. This technique was shown by Andy Skinner go check out his blog, I love his style and use a lot of what he has taught. Its basically using a paint on crackle medium between coats of paint but then gets taken further with the stamping technique and colour washes etc. The end result, hopefully is a vintage, paint cracked piece.
On the inside I used two different Tim Holtz papers to line the box, these were cut in one piece folded and stuck in place, distressed a little with distress inks.
The heart was a plain wooden heart that I stained with distress stains, fired brick and then distressed with a bit of walnut stain, the other half was some tissue paper I grabbed from the clothing store All Saints, (good find or what?) and was all covered with wax from the melting pot. I also threw in a stamped 'red 13' card stamped on acetate to finish it off.
Can Anyone spot the Deliberate mistake???? should their be a prize??
I am always excited to see what you are up to Mark - something different all the time! This is soo cool. Makes me want to paint something in the house (except the bathroom which I really need to paint but that takes all the fun out of it - LOL). Wonderful stuff!!! I saw your comment on digis on my blog. I can walk you through some steps if you want to email me at kwilliams6@elmore.rr.com. They really are easy!!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the offer of help, I will take you up on that soon, mark
Delete...words fail me Mark, your random act of kindness blew me away, I just sat there taking in your loVely gift, your tag is gorgeous, love the key and the leather hanger, really cool touch and wowzers I have some new Tim Stamps, I cant wait to get started with them, you made my heart smile!...anyways your posting...
ReplyDeleteVintage Vile is quite a title to act upon but you have a winner here, loVe what you have done, the Andy Skinner magic is shinning through, the deep cracks look amazing,loVe the heart and I'm sure with all the spooky goings on associated with that number maybe an upside number 13 counteracts the bad...a superb piece of inky artwork...Mel :)
deliberate mistake or fortuitous error? The direction of your stamps on top? I think it just adds to this wonderfully aged box Mark. The wooden heart is a fab touch. Thank you for sharing this with us at MM @ HDH.
ReplyDeleteYou know that you can get loads of help with digi if you ask - join the Smeared and Smudged forum? or you can contact me if you want
good spot.
Deletethanks for the info on the digi's I will be looking into and asking questions soon, main prob at the mo is my printer is out of ink. dang it
Hi Mark, just made my way here from the yorkshire fox's blog and I've been sat for agest mooching through your wonderous posts. Loving the texture on this box and the heart is to die for. Nothing for it but to become your latest follower as I don't want to miss out on your future artwork. Hugs, Buttons x
ReplyDeleteWow another fab piece, this is amazing in so many ways!! The card is fab..did you say red 13? Looks black or is that me?!! I love this piece , your work is amazing, clever and your posts are fab!!thanks for the kind words ! Trace x 52
ReplyDeleteHi Trace, the stamp is called red 13, it was stamped in black ;)
DeleteMistake? What mistake? Can't see any ... it looks just perfect to me :-)) Love all of it, especially the heart as a little extra. Whose is it this time? *g*
ReplyDeleteI feel my English is too poor to grab the deeper meaning of 'vile vintage' so I'm hesitating to take part ... also my next weekend is practically non existent so I won't have time for me anyway. I'm looking forward what others will come up with :-)
Have a great day
Suzanne x
Love the look of this piece. I'm a big Andy Skinner fan and spent time watching him last saturday in Lingfield too. Really like your see through playing card - had to look again to check my eyes weren't deceiving me! No mistake - surely you intended to do that?!
ReplyDeleteJulia
Mistake????? I would call it artistic licence Mark, love what you have done with the technique ;)
ReplyDeleteCheers Andy, Think I will go with the artistic licence excuse erm reasoning lol
DeleteThe only thing I can see with my old eyes is on the top of the box, each item going a different way but isn't an upside down 13 meant to be good? I saw what you did on Mel's blog, you are a true crafter now and a wonderful gentleman, well done on your random act of kindness, makes everything seem bright and rosy today. Great job on this project and a comment from the master himself too. Can't be bad, you must be chuffed. Anne x #49

DeleteThanks Anne and yes a great honour to have a comment by the master ;)
DeleteMark, great project, I so love boxes and the 13 would have not been detected as a mistake at all. hugs
ReplyDeleteHi Mark,
ReplyDeleteKiller Kewl box!! Love your upside down stamped 'red 13' card on acetate great idea! Love all your distressing work too. So on the heart, you said half of it's tissue paper, did you only put wax on the tissue paper part or did you do the whole heart in wax? Im asking cuz I want to play with wax. I have a melting pot just haven't played with it enough! I think your box turned out just gorgeous! You have done a fabulous job!!
Peace,
KristyLee
Gorgeous, gorgeous box. Love that technique (you are making me pine for one of his workshops even more!)
ReplyDeleteDeliberate mistake... am guessing like everyone else said about the upside down 13? But would never have spotted it if you hadn't mentioned it ;)
