Right, so after a slow week crafting I have just about managed to get my piece done for the Haunted Design House weekly challenge, this week it was 'Truebie or not Trubie' Its in preparation for the season prem of True Blood, we have to create something that embraces the spirit of vampires.
I thought I would share this, a genuine Vampire heart it has been passed down through the family for generations.My great,great Grandad was a Vampire hunter and this was in an old chest that I found in the atic.
The pictures are not that great as there is a glass window which is reflecting the light. To make this i painted a wooden heart and then added crocco crackle glaze, this was then dry brushed when it had dried, there is a stamped up back ground coloured with Tim Holtz distress ink. the wooden Shadow box/frame thing was done in another technique I learnt in the Andy Skinner workshop, It gives you a real 3d look for the peeled paint. the frame has then had a few Tim Holtz embelishments to finish it off.
I will also enter this into Simon Says Stamp and Show where the challenge is 'show some texture'
Lordy..how cool the texture of the heart works together with frame. A closer look at the heart is really a bit creepy (:o)

This is an awesome piece! I love all the texture!!! Your crackled heart that is showcased in your shadow box is just really really striking! I love the white washed, weathered and crackled appearance of your shadow box. Love the curio knob handle! Love the colored plaquette at the top! Love the drawer label at the bottom! The story angle was completly ripped off ur hmph inspired by your exploration box. It actually really helps bring a piece together sometimes. thanks for that.

ReplyDelete...I don't quite know where to begin, this is a masterpiece & you must be thrilled how it's turned out, you've got Andy's weathered paint perfect I loVe it! & as for the heart the deep cracks of dehydration & life force leaving are powerful but be careful one tiny drop of blood is all it would take to bring its owner back!...AWESOME work, a super spooky tale what will you do for Halloween???...Mel :)

ReplyDeleteYour piece is amazing! It looks like the story you told was true - except for one thing: I would have used a heavy lock and not a doorknob. Like Mel - the yorkshire fox - said, the heart seems to be lifeless but it looks like that only one drop of blood would be able to revive/reanimate it. So if I had have been your great great grandfather, I would have made sure that the heart is secure and nobody is able to open the chest ...
Well, you see, I'm one of these people who love to find strange mistakes in films.
On the other hand, the doorknob give me a different picture: Several of these chests hanging on the wall of the trophy room. A housemaid is opening them one after the other to dust the remainings of your great great grandfathers prey...
Well, I've babbled enough. I find your shadow box amazing, awesome, fabulous, brilliant ... well, I'm still learning positive English adjectives...
